Planning a trip is easier when your money, bookings and packing live in one file. This free Excel planner covers the basics: a budget, a day-by-day itinerary, a list of bookings, a packing list and an expense log. No sign-up, no email needed.
What is inside
- Trip: your dates, number of travellers, home currency and total budget, with a summary of what you have spent.
- Budget: planned vs. spent for ten categories, with a chart. Anything over budget turns red.
- Itinerary: one row per activity, with the date filled in from your start date.
- Bookings: confirmation numbers, dates, costs and free-cancellation deadlines in one place.
- Packing List: a starter list of about 30 items you can tick off and edit.
- Expenses: log every purchase in any currency and it converts to your home currency.
- Rates: the exchange rates the planner uses.
How to use it
Download the file, open it in Excel and start on the Trip sheet. Type over the blue cells. The black cells are formulas and update by themselves. The example rows show the format, so delete them when you start your own trip.
The exchange rates on the Rates sheet are examples only. Replace them with a current rate from your bank or card app before you rely on the totals.
Other programs
You can also open it in LibreOffice or upload it to Google Sheets. Some formatting may look a little different there, but the formulas should still work.
